‘I thought it was great’ Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath wanted to adopt a child at some point:
Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath recently revealed that he does not believe in having children just to carry on his legacy. During his podcast discussion, Kamath stressed his reluctance to invest two decades of his life only in the hope of receiving care from his offspring in old age.
However, there was a time when the billionaire was considering adoption. So much so that he did extensive research.
During his candid chat on his podcast WTF, Kamath said: “At one point in my life, I went through a phase where I wanted to adopt a child. And I tried… I looked into it. ”
Nikhil Kamath came to know that in our country it is very difficult for a single man to adopt a child.
He said his research showed that existing rules made it impossible for a single Indian man to adopt a child. Nikhil Kamath explained that he chose adoption because he thought it would be “good” to do so.
“Just like that. I thought it was cool at the time. Look, whatever things we do (we do) because we think they’re cool, okay?”
In the same vein, the 37-year-old billionaire said he has no strong feelings about having children to continue his “legacy.” He expressed his reluctance to spend two decades of his life “babysitting”, hoping that his children would treat him well when they grew up.
“This is also one of the reasons I don’t have children,” Kamath said. “I’m going to waste 18 to 20 years of my life raising this kid, and then if I’m lucky, at some point the opposite will happen. What if he says ‘Screw** you’ at 18? And goes anyway.”
Kamath Doesn’t Believe In The Concept Of Leaving Behind A Legacy:
When asked about leaving a legacy, Kamath said that he does not believe in the concept.
He said: “I think we all feel like we’re more important than we really are. You’re born and die like any other animal on this planet, then you die and Nobody remembers anybody.”
Kamath also said that it is egoistic to produce children who are remembered even after death. He said, “What does it mean to be remembered (after death)? I think you should come, you should be nice, you should be nice to the people you meet in your life.”
