Kulwinder Kaur, the CISF policewoman who allegedly confronted and slapped actor MP Kangana Ranaut at the Chandigarh airport on Thursday, has been booked under IPC sections 323 and 341 and may get bail. Mohali police is scanning CCTV footage at the station to verify Ranaut’s claims
Soon after the incident, the CISF suspended Kulwinder Kaur and initiated an administrative inquiry against her.
The Punjab Police on Friday detained suspended CISF constable Kulwinder Kaur, a day after she allegedly assaulted actor and BJP MP-elect Kangana Ranaut at the Chandigarh airport. The police action comes even as some farmer groups have supported her but also said the entire sequence of events that led to the incident should be properly investigated.
Based on a complaint filed by CISF, the Mohali police registered an FIR against Kulwinder Kaur under sections 323 (intentional hurt) and 341 (unlawful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code. Both are bailable offences and no arrest has been made yet, an official said.
Vinay Kajla, CISF deputy inspector general of police and airport security, said they were conducting a thorough investigation into the incident. He said they found that Kulwinder Kaur had a clean record. “I met her husband. He is in shock,” DIG Kajla said.
Ranaut on Thursday said the policeman hit her in the face and misbehaved with her during a security check at the Chandigarh airport. The CISF immediately suspended the policeman, who it alleged was upset with Ranaut over her remarks about women joining the farmers’ protest at Delhi borders against the farm laws, which were later revoked.
The CISF also ordered the formation of a court of inquiry into the incident. Mohali police SHO (airport) inspector Periwinkle Grewal said the matter was being investigated.
On Friday, several farmer unions came out in support of Kulwinder Kaur, even Jagjit Singh Dhaliwal, leader of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (non-political) and general secretary of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh, Sarwan Singh Pandhir Committee, met Punjab Lieutenant Governor Gaurav Yadav and demanded a proper investigation into the case. Dhaliwal said, “There should be no injustice with the policeman. We have been assured that the investigation is being conducted in a fair manner.”
Earlier, Dhaliwal, while speaking to the media along with Pandhir and some other farmer leaders, had announced that they would hold a ‘fairness march’ in Mohali on June 9 to “demand no injustice against the policeman in this case”.
Meanwhile, Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar termed the incident as “extremely unfortunate” and said any form of violence as a means of expressing dissent is unacceptable and should be condemned.
Summary :
CISF Constable Arrested for Allegedly Slapping Kangana Ranaut at Chandigarh Airport
A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable, Kulwinder Kaur, was arrested for allegedly slapping newly-elected Mandi MP and actor Kangana Ranaut at Chandigarh airport, citing “disrespecting farmers” as the reason. The incident, which led to Kaur’s suspension, occurred while Ranaut was heading to Delhi. Kaur was reportedly provoked by Ranaut’s past comments on farmers’ protests, particularly her remark about an elderly woman being paid ₹100 to protest. The video capturing the aftermath shows an argument but not the alleged slap. Ranaut later shared her concerns on social media, linking the incident to rising terrorism in Punjab. Ranaut has previously faced backlash for labeling protesting farmers as “terrorists.”
