Rajkot Fire Live Updates:

The death toll has reached 27 people and around nine others were injured after a massive fire broke out at an indoor playground in Gujarat’s Rajkot late Saturday night. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the families of those killed in the accident and Rs 50 lakh to the injured. Earlier in the day, the Gujarat government also announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the families of the victims. Reacting to the unfortunate incident that took place on Saturday, Prime Minister Modi said he was “deeply disturbed” and he was in touch with Prime Minister Bhupendra Patel regarding the rescue operation efforts.

Meanwhile, a special bench of the Gujarat High Court on Sunday took suo motu cognizance of the fire incident and termed it a “man-made disaster”. An FIR has been registered against six people, including the owner and director of TRP Amusement Park, on charges of culpable homicide. Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the incident will submit a preliminary report within 3 days and a final report after 10 days.

Rescue operations were underway at the site for more than six hours after a fire broke out in the structure built using metal sheets and fibers for gaming activities. Rajkot District Collector Prabhav Joshi said some of the bodies were burnt beyond recognition and DNA samples were taken from the bodies of the victims and their relatives and taken to a laboratory in Gandhinagar for identification. According to officials, the fire broke out due to lack of electricity. Officials also confirmed that the two-storey building did not have an application for a fire permit or no objection certificate (NOC) from the owner of TRP Entertainment Park.
