While the husband managed to jump out of the speeding car. The collision was so severe that the woman jumped and fell on the bonnet of the car. She was then rushed to Nair Hospital where she was declared dead.
Who is Mihir Shah?
The alleged driver Mihir Shah is the son of Palghar Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah. When contacted, Rajesh Shah admitted that he was aware of the incident involving his son. According to a TOI report, Rajesh Shah said that he has come to know about the hit-and-run case involving his son but added that he is still waiting to get details about what exactly happened.
Political reactions
The incident drew strong reactions from various political figures. CM Eknath Shinde said that no one will be spared, regardless of their political affiliation. Shinde said, “Everyone should be treated equally before the law, whether it is an employee or a worker of any party. We stand for equality before the government and the law.” He stressed that appropriate steps will be taken to prevent such incidents in future.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aditya Thackeray, who visited the police station, demanded the immediate arrest of the driver. Thackeray highlighted the decline in driving discipline in Mumbai and called for strict action against violators. “The accused driver is fleeing. Police have got surveillance camera footage. Strict action should be taken,” he confirmed. Thackeray stressed that the issue should not be politicised and traffic rules and discipline should be restored in the city.
“Driving cars in the opposite direction, not following signals, three-seater rides… everything is increasing in Mumbai which was not there earlier, but now things like hit and run have started happening and even the person who did it is doing it.” An immediate end to the accident is necessary to prevent such accidents from happening and for this we need to go beyond politics and work to improve the situation and restore traffic discipline and safety in Mumbai!

The police have arrested the driver and are looking for another person who was in the car at the time of the accident. The BMW has been seized and is expected to be examined by RTO officials. Legal steps are being taken and a medical examination will be conducted to determine if the driver was under the influence of alcohol or not.
