Indian-Origin Man from Punjab Shot Dead in Canada: Suspected Targeted Killing

Yuvraj Goyal, a 28-year-old from Ludhiana, Punjab, was tragically shot dead in Surrey, Canada. Arriving in Canada in 2019 on a student visa, Yuvraj had recently obtained Canadian Permanent Resident (PR) status. The Royal Canadian Police confirmed that he had no criminal record, and the motive for his murder is still under investigation.

The incident occurred on June 7 at 8:46 am in the 900-block of 164 Street, Surrey, British Columbia. Police found Yuvraj dead upon arrival and have detained four suspects: Manvir Basram (23), Sahib Basra (20), and Harkirat Jhutty (23) from Surrey, and Keilon Francois (20) from Ontario. All have been charged with first-degree murder.

Yuvraj worked as a sales executive, while his father, Rajesh Goyal, runs a firewood business, and his mother, Shakun Goyal, is a homemaker. The Royal Canadian Police have not yet determined the motive for his murder, but preliminary investigations suggest it was a targeted killing.

Sergeant Timothy Pierotti acknowledged the efforts of the Surrey RCMP, Air 1, and Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team (IERT), stating, “IHIT investigators remain dedicated to determining why Mr. Goyal was the victim of this homicide.”

This case continues to unfold as authorities delve deeper into the reasons behind Yuvraj’s untimely death.
