It is anticipated that the severe storm would bring heavy to very heavy rain to Kolkata and the surrounding areas and extremely heavy rain to the coastal districts of West Bengal. By Sunday midnight, the storm is expected to have moved further north, intensified, and made landfall between Sagar Island in West Bengal and Khepupara in Bangladesh, which is located southwest of Mongla port. The meteorological office predicts maximum sustained winds of 110–120 km/h with gusts as high as 135 km/h.

Starting on Sunday, flight operations at Kolkata airport will be suspended for 21 hours due to Cyclone Remal. “In view of Cyclone Remal’s impact on West Bengal’s coastal region, including Kolkata, flight operations will be suspended from 12:00 PM on May 26 to 9:00 AM on May 27 due to predicted heavy winds and rainfall,” according to the airport authority.
  8. Numerous local trains that typically link Kolkata and Howrah with neighboring districts have been canceled in the Sealdah and Howrah divisions. Beginning Sunday evening, all cargo and container handling activities at Kolkata’s Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port will be suspended for twelve hours.
