Jaipur/Delhi: A shopkeeper in Rajasthan duped an American woman into buying artificial jewellery worth Rs 300 for Rs 6 crore, police said.

When the jewellery was displayed at an exhibition in the United States in April this year, it turned out to be fake. Shirish travelled to India and met shop owner Gaurav Soni.
The US woman lodged a police complaint in Jaipur after the store owner dismissed her allegations. She also sought help from the US embassy, which urged the Jaipur police to investigate the matter.
The woman told police that she contacted Gaurav Soni through Instagram in 2022. Officials said he paid Rs 6 crore for artificial jewellery in the last two years.

Police said a search is on for Gaurav and his father Rajendra Soni, both of whom are absconding.

According to an NDTV report, Shirish said he found out that the jewellery was fake when it was displayed at an exhibition in the United States recently.
An American woman was duped by a jewellery shop owner in Rajasthan when she bought jewellery worth Rs 6 crore from him, only to later find out that it was fake and worth only Rs 300.
Shirish travelled to India and questioned the shop owner, Gaurav Soni. When he denied the allegations, she filed a complaint with the police and also sought help from the US embassy, the report said.
Jaipur police have launched an investigation, looking for Gaurav and his father Rajendra Soni, who have gone into hiding.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bajrang Singh Shekhawat said a man named Nand Kishore, who allegedly issued the fake certificate to the woman, has been arrested.
Some other reports claimed that Shirish met Gaurav on Instagram in 2022. Over the past two years, he paid Rs 6 crore for artificial jewellery, which he thought was real.
