DEHRADUN: The 36th annual meeting of the Asia Pacific Association of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons (APACRS) was a significant event, drawing nearly 2000 ophthalmologists from across the Asia-Pacific region to Chengdu, China. This picturesque city, famous for its pandas, played host to this prestigious gathering, which saw the participation of nearly 50 eye surgeons from India.
Indian Surgeons Shine at APACRS Annual Meeting
The Indian delegation, led by Dr. Gaurav Luthra from Dehradun, made a notable impression at the event. Dr. Luthra, the medical director and head of Drishti Eye Institute, has been at the forefront of advancements in cataract and laser refractive surgery on the international stage. He was recognized for his pioneering work in robotic laser cataract surgery, SMILE, and Contoura LASIK surgeries for specs removal.

The opening ceremony saw the felicitation of several distinguished doctors from around the world. Alongside Dr. Luthra, other notable doctors from Japan, Korea, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, and Bangladesh were honored for their contributions. The ceremony also included Dr. David Chang, past president of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, who led the delegation from the USA, and Dr. Thomas Kohnen, representing the European society.
