On February 28, 2024, a group of six robbers made away with valuables including gold jewellery and cash from the showroom at gunpoint.
The two robbers have been identified as Rahul Kumar alias Kalnaj Paswan (21) and Chhota Lawrence alias Gaganraj Rai (20). Both hail from Bihar. On reviewing the confessions, they admitted that they were part of the gang that carried out the robbery.
Almost three months after a group of 13 thieves decamped with over 10 kg of gold jewellery worth Rs 6 crore and Rs 7 lakh in cash from a jewellery showroom in Bihar’s Samastipur, Surat police on Monday arrested two accused. The accused were hiding in a rented apartment in Julfa village near Balsana, police said, and were arrested after receiving a tip-off. The two robbers have been identified as Rahul Kumar alias Kalnaj Paswan (21) and Chota Lawrence alias Gaganraj Rai (20). Both hail from Bihar. On reviewing the accused, they admitted that they were part of the gang that carried out the robbery.
After the arrest, Surat police contacted their counterparts in Bihar’s Samastipur and soon a team arrived to take the two into their custody.
On February 28, a group of 13 masked robbers allegedly fled with valuables from a showroom in Samastipur at gunpoint. Following this, the showroom manager Dilipkumar Giri lodged a complaint with the Samastipur police. Apart from stealing jewellery worth Rs 6 crore, the gang also allegedly stole cash worth Rs 1.41 lakh from the jewellery showroom’s cash counter and Rs 6 lakh from a customer at the jewellery shop. Speaking to The Indian Express, Palsana police inspector VL Gagia said: “The accused were staying here for the past two months and after they got around Rs 8 lakh as their share from the robbery, the gang members split up and went to different places. He further added, “Rahul Kumar has come out of jail after eight months for an old offence.”
